Eating a Buttery Lobster Nest of Cajun Ecstasy, Then Scoring a Free Ticket to a Seth Meyers Taping

OK, I know you’re really here for the lobster.
But first, exciting news: I got a free ticket to tomorrow night’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” taping at Rockefeller Center!

Admittedly, I’m not a regular viewer of his show like I am “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” or “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” (more on that in a minute), but this is going to be amazing. Here’s why.
First of all, you have to request tickets weeks or months in advance for many late-night tapings, before guests are ever announced. And I had the double challenge of not knowing my work schedule when I requested taping tickets at the start of the summer. Plus, you can only pick three dates to request for each show.
All of which means it’s super fortuitous that I’m going to get to see John Oliver again tomorrow night (which happens to be my day off this week)! In addition to Oliver, CC Sabathia, Mini Mansions, and Jeff Quay (the Blue Man Group musical director) are also guests on tomorrow night’s episode.
I’m amazed that a) I got a ticket for a date I can actually attend — there have only been a couple of days I could potentially attend tapings, as I need a full weekday off because they bridge the gap between morning and night shifts (and don’t tape on Fridays), and b) that John Oliver is the marquee guest.
I also was notified earlier this week that I didn’t get a ticket for the Colbert taping on Monday, which is the last taping date of his I could potentially attend. So, no Colbert for me, but then this happened and IT IS AMAZING. I’ve always wanted to see one of these late-night-host-goes-guest-on-late-night mashups in person.
Also, I’ll end this summer having attended “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” and now “Late Night with Seth Meyers” tapings, so hooray!
And though I may be working both Saturday and Sunday, I am having A WEEKEND. A photo can’t do justice to the full glory of this Lobster Nest I picked up today from Lobsterdamus at Smorgasburg Prospect Park, a Sunday outdoor food market in Brooklyn. That’s a whole lobster doused in Cajun butter on a bed of garlic noodles.

When random people stop you to take photos as you’re carrying it to your table, you know you’ve made a quality life choice.
