Eating Raw Cookie Dough (But Safely!) and Strolling the High Line

It’s been a stormy, thundering night in NYC thus far, but fortunately, I had the chance to walk the 1.5-mile-long High Line this evening before the weather took a turn for the worse. Here’s my sunlit sunset stroll:

If you’re not familiar with it, the High Line is a public park built on a former freight rail line above the streets on the west side of Manhattan. It’s like walking through a forest canopy, except instead of trees towering above you, it’s steel buildings.

If you’ve been to the Idle overlook in Indy’s Fountain Square, add nine more of those, and you’ve got an idea of the fun streetwatching points scattered along the path. There’s also fun graffiti, which makes an already vibrant green stretch even more so.

I also walked by the Vessel, a honeycomb-shaped Hudson Yards landmark that I scored a free ticket to tour later this month (they sell out quickly and are pretty popular. It’s only been open since March). It has 2,500 steps and 154 flights of stairs, so I’ll be wearing my tennis shoes!

I also thought I’d share a few stories I edited recently for The New York Times. This evening, I shepherded this one about an Iowa official who denies he was fired for his love of Tupac (like a real-life episode of “The Office”). An investigation about the billions of dollars of federal grants for opioid abuse treatment and prevention that are set to end next year that I edited also published today.

Finally, you know that fantasy you have of eating raw cookie dough? I lived it today (safely).

This right here is a "Commando" cup of cookie dough from DŌ, Cookie Dough Confections.

I tried the chocolate chip and the s'more flavors, which honestly tasted the same, as well as the blueberry pancake (hooray for free samples!). But, in the end, I went for the original.

Up next tomorrow: “The Prom” on Broadway! (Hellooooo, fictional conservative Indiana!) The last Indiana-set show I saw, Toni Stone (off Broadway), was outstanding, so I have high hopes for this one as well.
